- What are the requirements to become a traveler with TaleMed?
To become a TaleMed RN Traveler you will need to be a graduate of an accredited college or university, hold an Active and Clear Registered Nurse License and be able to work in the United States. - How much experience do I need to become a TaleMed RN Traveler?
You need at least 12 months consecutive recent Registered Nursing experience. - Will traveling look good on my resume?
Traveling will look excellent on your resume. It shows dedication to the nursing profession, adaptability as well as flexibility in your nursing abilities. Your resume will be strengthened by your travel assignments as you will learn and experience more. - What should I look for in choosing a travel nursing company?

Assignment Information
- Will I have flexibility in choosing my assignments?
Yes. You let us know what City, State you want to travel to. Your TaleMed Representative will see to all your requests. - Can I work in my hometown?
Yes. These are what we call “local contracts”. You get to enjoy the benefits of being a travel nurse in your hometown. Local contract will not qualify for the tax free advantage program. We encourage all employees to visit www.gsa.gov or consult a tax specialist for additional information. - How will I learn about the hospital I will be working at?
Each hospital has various forms of orientation. We will provide to you the facts about the hospital and unit. We will also provide to you when and where your orientation will be held. Additionally we will provide our research and history about the facility. - How long does it take before I start my first assignment?
From the time you accept a position you can typically start your assignment as soon as one week. - How many hours do you guarantee?
TaleMed will guarantee either 36, 48, or 60 hours a week based on contract terms. We do not have a “cancel clause” in our contract with you. This means that if the hospital cancels your shift during a designated week, you will still be paid your guaranteed hours. - What are the holidays you recognize?
TaleMed recognizes 6 holidays – New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas.
Traveling as a Nurse
- Do I need a new license for each state I travel to?
YES! We will assist you with this process. TaleMed pays up to $100 for any license that is required. If you have any additional questions on licensure please contact our Human Resource Department and ask to speak with a license specialist. - What are the lengths of the contract I sign?
Most contracts are 13 weeks. We can accommodate 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 13, and 26 week assignment lengths. - Do I have preference for what shifts?
Yes. We will know what shifts the hospital/opportunity is for. Variation of shifts happen frequently. All shifts will be discussed with you before any information is sent to the hospital.
Pay and Benefits
- What will my pay rate be?
Your pay will vary on many factors including: Hospital, location, and specialty. Additionally, TaleMed customizes all employment offers to meet your needs. - Are continuing education hours offered?
Absolutely! We offer CEUs to all of our nurses. - Do you have a 401(k) program?
Yes! Our 401(k) starts Day One for you. You have access to your 401(k) online. - What benefits do you offer and when do they start?
We offer our employees company paid Medical, Perscription and Dental insurance. Professional Insurance is provided by TaleMed for all employees. - How do I earn a bonus?
We can offer both Completion and Extension Bonuses. Your TaleMed Representative will review any bonuses that are being offered for your assignment. - How does tax advantage work?
We offer the Tax Advantage program to all qualified employees. We follow all GSA guidelines (www.gsa.gov)and encourage all employees to become aware of these guidelines. Your TaleMed Representative will work with you regarding the Tax Advantage rules & requirements. - Do you offer travel reimbursements?
Yes we do! We will either pay you to drive your car or book round trip airfare for you. We do not have a maximum travel allowance – we will customize your travel and reimburse you accordingly. - Do you have rental cars?
We offer rental cars on our assignments if they are requested. We will pay 100% of a rental car for you or provide a rental car stipend. Please note that all states require the driver to show a major Credit Card when picking up the car. - When do I get paid?
Weekly. We offer Direct Deposit, and we can also Federal Express to you Live Checks if you want. - May I receive insurance for my family?
Yes. We offer insurance coverage to your spouse and family at an additonal cost.Your TaleMed Representative will review your family coverage costs. - What is your overtime pay for California?
We pay overtime in California for any hours worked over 8 per shift. Or any hours worked over 40. This is based on length of shift and unit you are working on. - What is your referral bonus?
Referral bonuses are paid upon successful completion of an assignment by the person you refer. Referrals are a very important aspect to the Travel Nursing world and we will reward you. - When are my timesheets due?
Your timesheets are due every Monday by 1pm EST.
Housing
- What type of accommodations do you have?
We offer fully furnished PRIVATE one bedroom apartments for our assignments. You may also elect to take a housing stipend. - Do you offer housewares?
We offer a deluxe housewares package including your linens, towels, silverware, coffee maker and television. - Do you pay my utilities?
Yes! We pay up to $100 per month for your utilities. - If I don’t want your housing, what is your housing allowance?
Your housing allowance will vary on the City you are traveling to. Please visit www.gsa.gov for accurate Lodging Allowances that we may offer.
Medical Documentation
- What Medical Documentation do I need to have before I start traveling?
We will go over this aspect with you once you accept a position with TaleMed. Please keep in mind that you will need to have a Current Comprehensive Health Statement, MMR Immunizations or Titers, Current PPD Test. - Do I have to take a drug screen?
Yes. You will have to take a drug screen prior to starting an assignment. - What certifications do I need?
You will need an American Heart Association BLS/CPR card. Additional certifications per specialty such as ACLS, NRP, PALS, etc will be required.
Traveling with Others
- Can I travel with my family or friends to the assignment?
Of course! We can assist you with finding a 2 bedroom apartment, or a house to accommodate your friends and family. - May I take a travel assignment with a friend?
If your friend is a RN we can find a facility or city that you both can work in. One of you will be eligible for a referral bonus. Some travelers share apartments with their friend as well. - Can I bring my pet?
Pets are more than welcome on travel assignments. Pet deposits for housing will be your responsibility. We can assist you in finding pet friendly housing.
